A suspected MDMA-filled electronic cigarette (vape) cartridge was discovered inside a Proton Preve after its driver allegedly caused a three-vehicle crash along Jalan Persiaran Awana, Kajang, on Monday evening.
Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the accident occurred at around 6.30pm when the 41-year-old Malaysian driver reportedly lost control of his Proton Preve before crashing into the rear of a Perodua Myvi.
The initial impact pushed the Myvi forward into the back of a Mazda CX-3. The Proton Preve then sideswiped the Mazda before veering off the road and slamming into a tree. The force of the collision caused the tree to topple onto the wall of a nearby house.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite the chain-reaction crash and the damage caused to the vehicles and surrounding property.
During further inspections, police found a vape cartridge containing liquid suspected to be MDMA inside the Proton Preve. The driver also tested positive for methamphetamine during a drug screening.
Investigators further discovered that the man did not possess a valid driving licence. He has been remanded for three days to assist investigations under Regulation 10 of the Dangerous Drugs Regulations 1959, Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and Section 15(1) of the same Act.
Police have reminded motorists to drive responsibly, obey traffic laws, and never get behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, warning that reckless behaviour can put innocent road users at risk.
