The suspicious behaviour of a teenage couple repeatedly seen entering and leaving the toilet of a surau in Kampung Tok Rasul, Kilang Lama, led to their detention by villagers in the early hours of Sunday.
The pair, an 18-year-old male and a 15-year-old female, were apprehended at around 1.30am after residents became concerned about their frequent presence at the surau late at night.
Kulim District Religious Enforcement Officer Anwar Sharifuddin Mat Saad said the couple’s activities had attracted attention after several villagers noticed them visiting the premises during the early morning hours on multiple occasions.
According to him, members of the public operating businesses near the area had reportedly observed the pair entering the surau compound several times, raising suspicions among local residents.
“Villagers who conducted a check discovered the couple inside the surau toilet in a partially undressed state before informing the surau chairman and religious enforcement authorities,” he said.
Investigations revealed that the teenage boy is from Sungai Kob and works as a nasi lemak seller. He also confirmed that he is unmarried.
Meanwhile, the 15-year-old girl is from Changlun and is no longer attending school. She is currently residing with her aunt in Sungai Ular.
Authorities said both individuals admitted that they were not married to each other and did not share any family relationship that would permit them to be alone together in such circumstances.
Further action will be taken in accordance with the relevant religious laws and regulations, authorities said.
