Three people were killed after a chicken lorry carrying poultry supplies crashed into a trailer parked by the roadside along the East-West Highway near Batu 7, Batang Merbau, early Tuesday morning.
The crash, which occurred at about 4am, claimed the lives of the lorry driver, Norazeman Abdul Aziz, 42, and his two attendants, Mohd Haikal Hanifah, 29, and Mohammad Zakwan Mohd Nor, 16.
Tanah Merah Fire and Rescue Station operations commander, Senior Fire Officer I Mat Nuri Mohamad, said firefighters received an emergency call at 4.26am.
“Upon arriving at the scene, we found that a five-tonne lorry transporting chicken supplies from Perak to Kelantan had reportedly crashed into a trailer parked by the roadside,” he said.
All three victims were trapped inside the lorry and were later extricated by rescue personnel.
They were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health.
The bodies were handed over to the police before being taken to the Forensic Unit at Hospital Tanah Merah for post-mortem examinations.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
