The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and federal territories, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds expected until noon today.
In the northern region, the warning covers the entire state of Perlis, while several areas in Kedah are also affected, including Bandar Baharu, Kulim, Pendang, Pokok Sena, Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Kuala Muda, Yan and Baling.
The whole of Penang is also under the warning, while affected areas in Perak include Hulu Perak, Kerian, Selama, Larut Matang, Manjung, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Perak Tengah and Kuala Kangsar.
In the southern peninsula, the warning covers the entire state of Melaka, as well as Muar, Tangkak and Batu Pahat in Johor.
In Sarawak, stormy conditions are expected in the Miri division, covering Marudi, Beluru, Miri and Subis, as well as Limbang.
Several areas in Sabah are also affected, including Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Membakut and Sipitang in the Interior, along with Papar, Kota Belud, Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu, Putatan and Penampang in the West Coast.
W.P. Labuan is also included in the warning.
MetMalaysia said a thunderstorm warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour, either imminently or expected to continue for more than an hour.
Each warning is valid for a maximum of six hours from the time it is issued.
Residents and motorists in affected areas have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during periods of heavy rain and strong winds, which could lead to flash floods and reduced visibility on the roads.
