Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected across several states in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah until 5pm today, according to the latest weather warning.
In Perak, affected areas are Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar and Kinta, while Kuala Krai in Kelantan is also under the warning.
Several districts in Terengganu are affected, including Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Setiu and Kemaman, while in Pahang, the warning covers Jerantut, Kuantan, Lipis, Cameron Highlands and Maran.
In Johor, thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected in Johor Bahru, Pontian, Kulai, Mersing and Segamat.
For Sarawak, affected areas include Sibu, Bintulu, Betong, Sri Aman, Samarahan, Miri, Sarikei, Mukah, Kapit and Limbang, including several of their surrounding districts.
In Sabah, the warning covers parts of the Interior and West Coast divisions, including Beaufort, Membakut, Sipitang, Tambunan, Keningau, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Papar, Penampang, Tuaran, Kota Belud, Kota Kinabalu and Putatan.
The warning was issued at 1.35pm today, October 1, 2026.
MetMalaysia said thunderstorm warnings are issued when there are signs of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to continue for more than an hour.
Such warnings are short-term alerts and are valid for no more than six hours for each issuance.
