A trainee teacher was charged at the Ipoh Sessions Court on Wednesday with six counts of committing physical sexual assault against a teenage boy who was also his student earlier this month.
The accused, Muhammad Miedzal Mohd Zalani Sham, 25, pleaded not guilty after all charges were read separately before Sessions Court Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad.
According to the charges, the accused allegedly committed six acts of physical sexual assault against the 14-year-old victim at a house in Persiaran Guntong, Kampung Chakadi, Ipoh, between 1am and 7.26am on July 5, 2026.
Five of the charges were brought under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, while another charge was filed under Section 14(b) of the same Act.
If convicted, the accused faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment and caning, along with additional penalties due to his position of trust as a teacher towards the victim.
Deputy Public Prosecutor M Raveenaa proposed bail of RM20,000 for each charge, along with additional conditions including not interfering with witnesses and reporting to a police station every month.
The accused’s lawyer, Ameer Firdaus Mohd Amir, requested a lower bail amount, stating that his client is a trainee teacher from a local university who is awaiting examination results and an interview opportunity.
The lawyer also told the court that the accused had cooperated throughout the investigation and intended to continue pursuing a career in public service.
The court later granted bail of RM10,000 for all charges and fixed August 20 as the next mention date for the submission of documents.
