Two men were killed after the Proton X70 SUV they were travelling in allegedly lost control, crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a Toyota Hilux along Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Lipis in Bukit Lanjut here on Thursday morning.
Gua Musang district police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said police received information about the accident at around 10.24am, which also involved a police vehicle from the Gua Musang district police headquarters.
Preliminary investigations found that police officers were conducting random checks at KM16 of Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Lipis when they noticed the SUV behaving suspiciously.
“The officers then followed the vehicle for inspection after the SUV made a U-turn and headed towards Gua Musang town.
“When they reached the location, the vehicle is believed to have lost control, crossed into the opposite lane and collided with the rear side of a Toyota Hilux,” he said in a statement.
The SUV subsequently skidded off the road and crashed into a lamp post.
“One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while another died while receiving treatment at Gua Musang Hospital.
“Several other individuals travelling in the vehicle were injured and were taken to the same hospital for treatment,” he said.
Police are continuing investigations into the circumstances leading to the crash, including the events that occurred before the SUV lost control.
The incident also resulted in significant damage to the vehicles involved, while authorities are working to establish the identities of all those travelling in the SUV and determine the full sequence of events.
