Two Malaysians were arrested by Thai police in Sungai Golok after they were allegedly found carrying 1,560 Epam tablets valued at around 10,608 baht (RM862) last night.
Sungai Golok police chief Police Colonel Than Sirikhan said the two men, aged 24 and 30, were detained at about 10.30pm along Anukachart Usorn Road.
He said the arrests were conducted by personnel from the Sungai Golok police station’s Rapid Response Unit and Wihok Network Unit in front of Ban Boss Restaurant.
“Acting on information received from members of the public, the team went to the location and arrested the two suspects.
“Checks found 1,560 tablets packed in 39 blister packs, with each pack containing 40 tablets. The drugs were estimated to be worth around 10,608 baht (RM862),” he said.
Than said both men were being investigated for allegedly jointly possessing Epam (Nitrazepam 5mg), classified as a Category 2 psychotropic substance, with the intention of selling it without authorisation.
“They are also being investigated for entering and remaining in Thailand without permission,” he added.
The suspects and the seized tablets have since been handed over to investigators at the Sungai Golok police station for further action.
It is understood that the two Malaysians had recently entered Sungai Golok town through one of several illegal jetties along the Kelantan-Thailand border in Rantau Panjang.
