Two local men have been arrested after allegedly stealing three bottles of motorcycle engine oil from a petrol station in Kanchong, Kuala Langat, on Monday.
Kuala Langat District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said police received a report regarding the incident from a 31-year-old local woman employed at the petrol station at around 4.01pm.
According to the complainant, a staff member had alerted management after spotting a man taking three one-litre bottles of motorcycle engine oil before leaving the premises without making any payment.
Investigators later reviewed the station’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, which showed the suspect wearing sunglasses, a black short-sleeved shirt and a pair of jeans during the incident.
The footage allegedly captured the man removing the engine oil from a display rack before fleeing the scene in a Perodua Myvi. Retail theft cases continue to be a concern for businesses, with surveillance footage often playing a key role in identifying suspects.
Acting on information received from members of the public, police tracked down and arrested two local men aged between their 40s and early 50s at the Selera Tujuh Food Court, operated by the Kuala Langat Municipal Council, located about three kilometres from the petrol station.
Initial investigations indicate that both suspects are believed to be linked to the theft. However, police are still searching for another individual who remains at large.
Following the arrests, investigators opened an investigation paper and classified the case under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.
Mohd Akmalrizal urged the public to refrain from making speculations that could interfere with the ongoing investigation.
He also called on anyone with information regarding the case to contact the nearest police station or the Kuala Langat District Police Headquarters Operations Room at 03-3187 2222 to assist investigators.
