Police have solved an armed robbery case at a convenience store in Jasin last week with the arrest of two men in separate operations yesterday afternoon.
Jasin district police chief Superintendent Lee Robert said the suspects, aged 44 and 45, were arrested at about 4.30pm at the roadside along Jalan PPJ 3 in Jasin town, Melaka, and in Sagil, Tangkak, Johor.
He said the arrests were carried out by officers and personnel from the Jasin District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD), together with members of the Tangkak District Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“The 44-year-old suspect, who lives in Bemban, Melaka, works as a fertiliser shop assistant, while the 45-year-old suspect from Petaling Jaya, Selangor, works as a labourer.
“The second suspect is also under police supervision by the Tangkak district police headquarters. Both suspects have previous records, with 22 and 30 cases respectively,” he said in a statement today.
Lee said investigations found that both suspects admitted to being involved in the robbery.
“The first suspect admitted to riding the motorcycle and waiting outside the convenience store, while his accomplice entered the premises to carry out the robbery,” he said.
Police also seized several items believed to be linked to the case, including three mobile phones, two helmets, two pairs of jeans, two pairs of shoes, a yellow-handled paper cutter measuring about 12cm and a white KTM Duke 200 motorcycle.
Other items seized included a dark blue heart-patterned bag, a wristwatch, several motorcycle and house keys and other belongings.
Lee said the case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code.
Urine screening tests will also be conducted on both suspects after their remand proceedings at the Jasin Magistrates’ Court today.
On Aug 6, it was reported that a 40-year-old female cashier had faced a terrifying ordeal after being threatened with a knife by a robber who fled with cash and her personal belongings during a robbery at a convenience store in Taman Maju, Jasin.
