A lorry driver and an Indian national have claimed trial at the Sessions Court today for allegedly possessing more than 6,400kg of government-subsidised cooking oil without permission.
The two accused, Moo Teck Lim and V Senthil, were charged separately with unlawfully possessing 4,845kg and 1,598kg of subsidised cooking oil respectively.
Moo was accused of committing the offence at a shop in Bandar Pinggir Subang, Section U5, while Senthil allegedly committed the offence at a premises in Jalan Bakti 25/15.
Both offences were said to have taken place on July 14.
They were charged under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act, which provides for a maximum fine of RM1 million, imprisonment of up to three years, or both upon conviction.
Sessions Court Judge Fatimah Zahari granted Moo bail of RM15,000 with one surety, while Senthil was granted bail of RM40,000 with two sureties.
The court also ordered both accused to surrender their passports and report to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry office once a month.
The court fixed Aug 17 for case management involving Moo, while Senthil’s case will be mentioned again on Aug 24.
