Two-Year-Old Boy Dies After Falling into Open Manhole in Sibu

A two-year-old boy tragically lost his life after falling into an uncovered manhole at Pusat Tanahwang along Jalan Dr Wong Soon Kai today.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said in a statement that a distress call was received at 6.29pm, prompting the deployment of 10 firefighters from the Sibu Central Fire Station.

Upon arrival, the victim’s father informed the rescue team that his son had gone missing and was believed to have fallen into the sewer system.

A search and rescue operation was immediately launched. At 6.55pm, rescuers found the child floating in the sewer and managed to retrieve him by 7pm. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer from the Ministry of Health.

The victim has been identified as Ehthin Ling. His body was sent to Sibu Hospital for further examination.

The rescue operation concluded at 7.30pm.
