A trailer lorry carrying a load of oil palm fruit caught fire after its tyres reportedly caught flames while travelling along Batu 8, Jalan Pan Borneo Bintulu-Miri this morning.
The incident, which occurred at around 7.31am, did not result in any injuries as the 59-year-old lorry driver managed to escape safely.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at 7.31am before a team from the Kidurong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), assisted by personnel from BBP Bintulu, was deployed to the location.
Initial inspections found that the fire had started at the tyre section of the trailer lorry, which was transporting a load of oil palm fruit.
Bomba personnel immediately carried out firefighting operations using a hose reel supplied by water from the fire engine’s tank.
The team also focused on extinguishing the flames involving the palm oil fruit cargo to ensure the fire was completely brought under control.
Bomba said the fire was successfully contained within about 30 minutes, with the operation fully concluded at 8.47am.
The cause of the fire has not been disclosed and further investigation is expected to be carried out.
