A viral social media post alleging that a woman was secretly recorded on an LRT train has prompted dozens of female public transport users to come forward with their own experiences of harassment while commuting.
The discussion began after Threads user anissatiaraaaa shared a video claiming that an elderly man had attempted to film her friend without consent during a journey on the LRT.

According to the post, the woman became suspicious after noticing what appeared to be a recording through the reflection of the train window. She was reportedly shocked and unsure how to respond after realising she may have been filmed.
The post further alleged that the incident was not the first of its kind, claiming the same individual had previously attempted to record her friend on another occasion.
The video was reportedly captured as evidence and has since been submitted to Rapid KL for further attention. Within hours of being uploaded, the post attracted more than 4,600 views and generated widespread discussion online.
The incident quickly became a platform for other women to share their own encounters with alleged harassment on public transport, with many expressing frustration over what they perceived as a lack of accountability for offenders.
One user, shambalinaa, said she had experienced a similar situation and lodged a police report accompanied by photographic evidence. However, she claimed she was informed that action could not be taken because no physical contact had occurred.
Another user, pzzaw3, said the video reminded her of an incident involving an elderly man while travelling on the Kelana Jaya LRT line.
Meanwhile, user nrlqdhazz recounted an alleged incident aboard a bus in which a male passenger repeatedly rubbed against her thigh. She said the situation escalated until she confronted the man, after which the bus driver intervened and removed him from the vehicle.
The original post also drew criticism from some online users who questioned why the woman did not confront the alleged offender directly.
Defending her friend, anissatiaraaaa said many people underestimate how difficult it can be to react in the moment when faced with uncomfortable or potentially threatening situations.
She explained that the video was shared publicly to raise awareness among commuters and encourage greater vigilance when using public transportation.
The user also highlighted the realities of travelling in crowded train coaches, where passengers often have limited space and may find it difficult to distance themselves from inappropriate behaviour.
Echoing the call for greater awareness, another user, haninamirra, urged women to speak out whenever they encounter misconduct in public spaces.
“Girls, it’s time we do that. Don’t be afraid, call them out. Women will stand behind you,” she wrote.
The viral discussion has reignited conversations about commuter safety, public awareness and the importance of creating safer environments for passengers using public transport services.
