Viral Police Step-On-Head Video: JIPS To Investigate Officers Involved

Date:

Police have ordered an investigation into officers involved in a viral video showing a man being pulled off a motorcycle before being arrested in Jalan Tunku Putra, Kulim.

Kulim district deputy police chief, Deputy Superintendent Tengku Mohd Faisal Tengku Yeng, said the case will be reviewed by the Royal Malaysia Police Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) to determine whether standard operating procedures (SOP) were followed during the arrest.

He said the officers involved have also been temporarily reassigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation.

“We have instructed JIPS to investigate and assess compliance with arrest SOPs,” he said.

In the same development, police confirmed that remand has been granted for three days until Thursday on the suspect to assist investigations.

Previously, authorities reported that the man was arrested after attempting to flee during a crime prevention patrol operation on Monday morning.

The suspect allegedly kicked a police motorcycle before escaping on his own motorbike, riding against traffic in a dangerous manner that endangered other road users.

Upon inspection, police found two transparent plastic packets believed to contain ketum water. Preliminary urine tests also showed the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine.

A 29-second video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the man being pulled off his motorcycle before falling to the ground, with an officer seen stepping on his head.

The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
