‘We Hope They Are Safe’: Nga Appeals For Prayers For Missing Firefighters In Nepal

Date:

The Housing and Local Government Ministry is working with Wisma Putra to trace two Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department officers who remain uncontactable after devastating flash floods and mudslides hit Rasuwa, Nepal.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said every effort was being made to locate the two officers, who are among more than 50 Malaysians still unaccounted for following the disaster.

“I ask all Malaysians to pray for the safety of our two ‘red heroes’ who have yet to be traced. We hope they are safe and will be found soon,” he said after officiating the Jom Makan Ipoh Expo here on Saturday Night.

Nga said the ministry, through the Fire and Rescue Department, was also maintaining close communication with the families of the missing officers and keeping them updated on the situation.

The two men have been identified as Mohd Sani Harul, deputy director of the department’s planning and research division at its headquarters, and Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa, an officer with the department’s Central Region Academy.

They were among 10 Malaysians who travelled to Nepal on Monday night for a trip to Everest Base Camp.

However, their journey was followed by disaster when mudslides and flash floods struck Rasuwa district two days later. The affected area is located close to Nepal’s border with Tibet.

The situation has raised concern among Malaysian authorities as rescue and tracing efforts continue to establish the whereabouts of citizens who remain uncontactable.

The ministry and Wisma Putra are continuing to coordinate efforts with the relevant authorities in Nepal while families await further updates on their loved ones.
