A woman narrowly avoided food poisoning after discovering a curry puff she purchased from a popular market was filled with mould.
The incident, which was shared on social media, quickly went viral and attracted thousands of reactions from shocked netizens.
In a Threads post, the woman uploaded several photos showing the inside of the curry puff covered in blue-green mould and fuzzy growth, suggesting the food had spoiled long before it was sold.
The woman said she bought the curry puff earlier that morning and only discovered the contamination after taking a small bite.
“I really don’t want to say anything bad, but I bought this this morning. From what era did this curry puff come from?” she wrote.
She added that she was fortunate to have a habit of checking her food before fully eating it.
“Luckily, I’m the type of person who takes a small bite first and checks before finishing the rest,” she said.
According to her post, the curry puff was purchased from the well-known Siti Khadijah Market in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
Concerned about the incident, the woman said she had lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Health through the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA) and is currently awaiting a response from the authorities.
Photos of the mouldy snack quickly sparked outrage online, with many social media users expressing disgust and questioning how the item could have ended up being sold to customers.
Several commenters said the incident highlighted the importance of proper food handling and quality control, especially at busy public markets.
Others shared similar experiences involving expired or spoiled food products that appeared normal from the outside.
While many reacted with concern, some attempted to lighten the mood with jokes, with one user humorously suggesting that the curry puff had come in a completely different flavour.
The incident has since reignited discussions about food safety and the need for regular inspections to ensure consumers are protected from potentially harmful products.
