Year Six Pupil, Uncle Killed In Tragic Morning Crash On Way To School

Date:

A Year Six male pupil and his uncle were killed after the motorcycle they were riding was involved in a collision with a van along Jalan Sri Aman–Lingga in Sri Aman, about 180 kilometres from Kuching.

Sri Aman District Police Chief, Superintendent Dennis Bunyam, said the accident occurred at around 6.20am on Tuesday and resulted in the deaths of the 60-year-old rider and the child pillion rider at the scene.

He said the victims were on their way to send the boy to Sekolah Kebangsaan Stumbin, Sri Aman. Initial investigations found that the accident is believed to have happened when the van lost control and collided with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.

“Both victims were confirmed dead at the scene by medical officers. The 77-year-old van driver was not injured,” he said when contacted on Thursday.

The bodies were sent to the forensic medicine unit of a nearby hospital for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
