Former High Court judge Abdul Halim Aman has been appointed as the new Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), effective May 13.
He will take over the role from Azam Baki, whose contract is set to end on May 12.
Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the appointment received the consent of the Sultan Ibrahim after being proposed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Friday.
He noted that the appointment was made in accordance with Subsection 5(1) of the MACC Act 2009.
“The government is confident that his extensive experience and strong integrity will further strengthen governance, enhance public confidence, and intensify anti-corruption efforts for the benefit of the nation,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
Earlier, Sultan Ibrahim had indicated that a new MACC Chief Commissioner would be selected to lead the commission, stressing that the position is crucial in ensuring the agency continues to function effectively as the country’s primary body in combating corruption, abuse of power, and misconduct.
