PKR communications director Adam Adli has been appointed acting Melaka PKR chief, replacing Shamsul Iskandar Akin, who was charged earlier this month with accepting RM176,829 in bribes. The appointment, announced by PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh, took effect yesterday.
Fuziah clarified that Shamsul remains the Hang Tuah Jaya PKR chief. Adam, who is also the Hang Tuah Jaya MP and deputy youth and sports minister, does not hold a divisional post, having lost his bid for Hang Tuah Jaya PKR deputy chief in April’s party divisional polls. He was later appointed deputy Melaka PKR chief.
Shamsul, who won the Hang Tuah Jaya PKR chief post by a comfortable margin, resigned last month as senior political secretary to Prime Minister and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim amid allegations from businessman Albert Tei. Tei, currently on trial for corruption related to mineral exploration licences in Sabah, claimed he spent RM629,000 on Shamsul, including property renovations, premium cigars, and custom suits.
Both Shamsul and Tei were charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on December 4.
