Ahmad Maslan Says Negeri Sembilan Issue Rooted In Adat Institution, Not Purely Political

Date:

All parties must adopt an open mindset in understanding the situation in Negeri Sembilan, which should be viewed as a matter involving the state’s traditional adat institution rather than purely political conflict, says UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan.

He said it would be difficult to resolve the ongoing situation in the state unless the underlying issues involving its unique traditional structure are properly addressed and understood.

“People need to understand that this issue is about the adat institution. Those outside Negeri Sembilan may find it difficult to fully grasp this,” he said.

He explained that unlike other Malaysian states where the ruler is a Sultan, Negeri Sembilan has a distinctive leadership system led by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, supported by four Undang Luak, forming a 1+4 traditional governance structure.

As such, he said discussions on the matter should be approached with an open mind, especially during ongoing political consultations between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN).

Ahmad, who is also Deputy Works Minister, made the remarks after officiating the PERKOBF Federal Territories Bumiputera Class F Contractors Association general meeting earlier today.

His comments came ahead of a scheduled PH-BN Political Bureau meeting at 8pm in Putrajaya, where leaders are expected to deliberate on several political issues, including developments in Negeri Sembilan.

Sources from both coalitions confirmed that the meeting will take place at Kompleks Sri Perdana in Putrajaya.
