UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has strongly criticised Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng over his remarks regarding a recent water music festival held in Kuala Lumpur.
Akmal said the DAP adviser should be ashamed of his earlier statement, accusing him of failing to understand Malaysian cultural values and comparing local cultural expressions to what he described as “street disco”.
In a pointed response, he also took aim at Guan Eng’s comments on social media, stating that the latter and his allies should be the ones feeling embarrassed.
“You are the one who should be ashamed, together with your group. You cannot even differentiate Malaysian culture from what you proudly call a street disco,” he reportedly wrote, adding a sarcastic remark about “RM30 level”.
Earlier, Guan Eng had criticised what he described as extremist elements within Barisan Nasional, UMNO, Perikatan Nasional and PAS for allegedly trying to incite public opposition against the festival.
He defended the event, stating that it had been a success, with the Malaysian Inbound Tourism Association estimating around 180,000 attendees and approximately RM200 million in tourism revenue generated.
