Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki has filed a defamation lawsuit against controversial businessman Albert Tei over alleged false statements published online.
Azam’s legal representatives, Messrs Zain Megat & Murad, confirmed that the writ of summons and statement of claim were filed at the Shah Alam High Court on Tuesday.
The civil action relates to statements allegedly published and republished via a podcast, YouTube Shorts and other online platforms, which Azam claims are defamatory and damaging to his reputation.
His legal team maintained that the allegations made against him were baseless and untrue, stressing that the lawsuit was initiated to protect his name after nearly four decades of public service.
They added that Azam is seeking damages as well as a permanent injunction to prevent further publication of the contested claims.
As the matter is now before the court, the legal firm said no further comments will be made and urged all parties to respect the ongoing judicial process.
Previously, Azam was reported to be preparing legal action after claims surfaced alleging threats linked to a corruption-related matter in Sabah, which he has strongly denied.
Separately, police investigations are also ongoing, with Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department recording statements from Azam and probing allegations under criminal intimidation provisions.
