Barisan Nasional (BN) Johor has dismissed suggestions that the scheduling of the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, whether held simultaneously or separately, would provide any political advantage to any party.
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said electoral success is determined by the strength of party machinery and level of preparedness, rather than the timing of the elections.
He stressed that BN Johor remains fully ready to face any election scenario, regardless of whether the polls are conducted alongside other states or on different dates.
“We do not depend on whether the elections are held together or separately. As for why Johor and Negeri Sembilan are held at different times, that is a question for the Election Commission (EC),” he said.
He added that when Johor previously dissolved its state assembly, there was no discussion about synchronising the polls with Negeri Sembilan, noting that the timing of both states’ elections developed independently.
The Election Commission (EC) has set nomination day for the Johor state election on June 27, with early voting scheduled for July 7 and polling day on July 11.
For Negeri Sembilan, nomination day will fall on July 18, followed by early voting on July 28 and polling on August 1.
Mohamed Khaled, who is also Defence Minister and Kota Tinggi MP, said BN has extensive experience in elections, having faced both victories and defeats, and remains consistently prepared for any outcome.
