Barisan Nasional (BN) will only announce its candidate for the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar post after the Aug 1 state election if the coalition succeeds in forming the next state government, said state Umno chief Datuk Jalaluddin Alias.
Jalaluddin said BN currently has several potential candidates who are capable of leading the state administration, but the final decision will be determined by the coalition’s top leadership.
“Once we secure victory, the BN leadership will decide who is the most suitable person to be appointed as menteri besar to lead the state government,” he was quoted as saying.
Jalaluddin, who is among the names speculated for the position, is defending the Pertang state seat for a third term in a three-cornered contest against Pakatan Harapan’s Umry Abdul Khois and Bersatu’s Faizal Fadli Idrus.
The Pertang seat is located under the Jelebu parliamentary constituency, which Jalaluddin has represented since 2018.
The Negeri Sembilan state election will take place on Aug 1, with political parties competing for control of the state government.
