PKR Information Chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil says he has no information regarding speculation that Subang MP Wong Chen may vacate his parliamentary seat.
The Communications Minister said any development concerning the status of the Subang parliamentary seat must come through an official announcement by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
Reports previously claimed that Wong had expressed his intention to resign during a meeting with Johari on Friday, with the three-term MP expected to make his decision public on Monday.
Fahmi also clarified that Nurul Izzah Anwar’s temporary leave from her position as PKR deputy president would not affect the party’s operations. He said PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had been entrusted with carrying out the responsibilities and functions of the position in the interim.
He said the PKR Central Leadership Council had not received Nurul Izzah’s resignation, but had instead approved her request for leave to focus on personal matters and pursue her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) studies.
“Nurul Izzah remains a party member and will continue to assist the party in its struggle,” he said during a press conference after officiating the 2026 Safe Internet Parents and Teachers Association Convention for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
On speculation that the 16th General Election (GE16) could be called earlier than expected, Fahmi said there were currently no plans for an early election. He said the Federal Government expected the election to be held no later than the end of next year.
Fahmi said the government’s immediate priority was to ensure smooth administration while acknowledging the continued commitment of component parties in the Unity Government to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim until the end of his term.
He added that Pakatan Harapan and its Unity Government partners remained focused on improving the country’s situation and implementing reforms considered necessary for the people.
Among the matters requiring continued attention, he said, was the implementation of recommendations made by the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Lembaga Tabung Haji covering the period from 2014 to 2020.
Fahmi also hinted that Anwar could make several announcements in the near future which he described as positive developments for the people and the country.
