Jabatan Laut Malaysia Urges Ships To Avoid Strait of Hormuz Amid Security Concerns

Date:

All Malaysian-registered vessels and local shipping companies have been urged to exercise heightened caution, including avoiding transit through the Strait of Hormuz until further notice.

The Jabatan Laut Malaysia (JLM) said the advisory was issued to safeguard navigation in light of evolving security developments in the West Asian region.

In a statement released today, the department advised Malaysian ship operators to reassess and, if necessary, reroute their voyages by taking into account the current security landscape.

Operators were also reminded to closely monitor maritime security advisories issued by relevant international authorities and to ensure that both vessels and crew members maintain the highest level of operational readiness at all times.

According to JLM, these precautionary measures are crucial amid heightened security tensions that may pose risks to ships, seafarers and cargo operating in affected areas.

The department further called on Malaysian shipping operators sailing within or near the impacted zones to strengthen operational vigilance and sustain active communication with company management and relevant authorities to enable swift action if required.

JLM added that cooperation from all stakeholders within the maritime industry is vital to ensure Malaysia’s shipping operations remain safe, orderly and resilient in the face of shifting international security risks.
