Kedah ADUNs Continue Duties Despite BERSATU Expulsion, Says Sanusi

Date:

Two Kedah State Legislative Assembly members from BERSATU, who were expelled from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) component party, are continuing their official duties as usual within the state administration, said Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

He clarified that any action involving Suka Menanti assemblyman Dzowahir Ab Ghani and Sungai Tiang assemblyman Abdul Razak Khamis must go through proper administrative procedures and receive the consent of the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah.

Dzowahir currently serves as Kedah Exco chairman for Agriculture, Plantation and Transport, while Abdul Razak holds the position of Deputy Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly.

“All actions must follow administrative procedures. We need to discuss in detail, present it to His Royal Highness the Sultan, and proceed according to established processes. For now, they are still carrying out their duties as EXCO and Deputy Speaker,” Sanusi said.

He added that both representatives are now considered independent assembly members but still support the state government administration.

“They are not opposition members, but independent ADUNs who support the state government. Their position will be further discussed,” he said.

Sanusi also revealed that a letter from BERSATU requesting changes to the EXCO lineup and Deputy Speaker position had been received earlier, but no action was taken at the time as both leaders were still party members.

He said the matter had previously been discussed with BERSATU president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali during an Aidilfitri open house event in April.

According to him, since the pair were not yet expelled at that time, there was no basis to replace them.

However, he noted that recent developments, including formal expulsion letters, now require further procedural review in accordance with appointment rules.

BERSATU’s disciplinary board confirmed that Dzowahir and Abdul Razak were expelled with immediate effect for alleged breaches of party constitution and code of conduct.

The party also suspended seven other members, including several Members of Parliament and two additional state assemblymen, as part of broader disciplinary action.
