The launch of Malaysia’s new version of the International Malaysian Passport (PMA), which was originally scheduled to begin on June 1, has been postponed to a later date yet to be announced.
Immigration Department director-general Zakaria Shaaban said the delay was necessary to ensure smooth service delivery and maintain the best possible experience for the public.
“Members of the public can continue renewing their existing passports as usual, and all currently valid passports remain usable until their expiry date,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Zakaria added that any future updates regarding the implementation of the new PMA version would be announced through official channels of the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM).
He also expressed appreciation for the public’s continued cooperation and support.
According to Zakaria, JIM remains committed to strengthening the security of Malaysia’s travel documents while continuing to improve public service delivery.
Earlier reports revealed that the upgraded passport version would feature 94 advanced security features designed to make the document safer and far more difficult to forge.
The rollout of the new passport was initially expected to take place in stages beginning June 1.
