The hosting of the Formula 1 (F1) Bahrain Gulf Air Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this October is expected to generate significant economic benefits through tourism growth, job opportunities and increased business activities.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the world-class event is also expected to boost investor confidence while supporting the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign.
He said the government is studying experiences and best practices from successful F1 host countries to ensure the race is organised at the highest international standards.
Anwar said this was among the matters discussed during his meeting with Singapore Grand Prix Executive Director Michael Roche to gain insights into managing and delivering a major motorsport event.
“God willing, we are committed to ensuring that this event not only meets international standards but also strengthens Malaysia’s position as a regional motorsport hub while bringing wider benefits to the people and the country’s economy,” he said in a Facebook post.
He added that lessons from countries with proven experience in hosting Formula 1 events would serve as a valuable reference to ensure the race at SIC is successfully conducted.
The return of the prestigious motorsport event is expected to further enhance Malaysia’s tourism appeal while creating wider economic opportunities across various sectors.
