Ahmad Zahid Defends Role In Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Appointment Process

Date:

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has dismissed allegations that outside parties interfered in the appointment of the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, describing such claims as remarks from someone who does not understand political realities.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said it was his responsibility as the coalition’s national leader to submit the official letter and proposed candidate names to the palace for the Menteri Besar appointment process.

He said the process was part of his duty and should not be viewed as interference from an external party.

“I do not want to entertain the remarks of someone who does not understand the political reality that names must be submitted to the palace. As BN chairman, I am responsible for presenting the letter and proposed name,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid added that if his role as BN chairman at the national level was considered that of an outsider, then such an accusation reflected a misunderstanding of the political process.

He made the remarks during a press conference after attending the Monthly Assembly of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) here on Thursday.

The appointment of the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar had recently drawn attention after claims surfaced regarding alleged involvement by external parties in the selection process.
