Putrajaya is looking to expand its global partnerships following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s recent official visits to Russia and Turkmenistan.
Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong said the new and renewed multi-sector collaborations have shown positive outcomes, with the government expected to review and discuss related policy implications in due course.
“We are viewing the Prime Minister’s visits very positively. We hope to further expand our partnerships with the rest of the world,” he told reporters after attending the Microcredit Turun Padang programme at Dataran Puchong Permai’s Farmers Market.
He added that detailed policy discussions will be held on separate platforms as the government assesses the outcomes of the engagements.
Following the visits, Liew said Malaysia and Turkmenistan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector while also broadening ties in trade, investment, transportation, education and technology.
He further noted that Russia has assured Malaysia of continued long-term supplies of petroleum, oil and gas.
However, he said the government will continue to closely monitor geopolitical developments, particularly tensions in the Middle East and negotiations between Iran and the United States, as these could have implications on Malaysia’s financial and economic outlook.
