Malaysia will introduce a Non-Workplace Injury Scheme to ensure employees remain protected even outside office hours, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.
He said the initiative stems from the understanding that work-related stress does not stop at the factory gate or office door.
“In an era of flexible and remote work arrangements, this reform will align protection with the realities of modern living and working styles,” he said during his keynote address at the 2025 World Social Security Forum.
“More importantly, it will extend coverage beyond fixed hours because accidents and injuries do not adhere to a schedule,” he added.
The event was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, and Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.
