Melaka Plans Rider Pitstop Centres In Every District To Support Gig Workers

Date:

The Melaka State Government is planning to establish at least one dedicated rest centre for gig workers in each district across the state, in a move aimed at improving the welfare of more than 5,000 riders currently operating in the sector.

Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh said the facilities, known as Rider Pitstop, will be built at strategic locations to provide delivery riders and p-hailing drivers with a safe and comfortable place to rest while waiting for orders or passengers.

“As a government that truly cares for the people, we plan to introduce more Rider Pitstop centres across strategic locations in the state so that the rider community can rest in a more comfortable and secure environment,” he said while speaking at the Moreh Bersama Rider dan Penggiat Gig event held at Seri Bendahara last night.

He added that the state government will also introduce four additional pick-up points for p-hailing services to improve accessibility and efficiency. The proposed locations include Melaka Sentral, Pantai Klebang, Hospital Melaka and AEON Bandaraya Melaka.

According to Ab Rauf, the state government remains open to receiving requests, complaints, suggestions and assistance applications from the gig worker community. These matters will be coordinated at the state level before being raised to the federal government where necessary.

In addition, the state government has allocated RM50,000 in Ramadan contributions for the p-hailing and gig worker community in Melaka as recognition of their role in supporting the state’s economy.

Earlier, Ab Rauf also presented RM30,000 in contributions through the Tabung Amanah Pendidikan Negeri Melaka (TAPEM) to 12 student associations representing Anak Melaka students from 12 higher education institutions during the Majlis Berbuka Puasa Bersama Mahasiswa Anak Melaka. The contribution aims to support student organisations in organising programmes that benefit their members and promote personal development.
