Nga Kor Ming Backs Wong Siew Ki, Defends Right To Raise Issues In Assembly

Date:

Nga Kor Ming, Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Action Party, has voiced strong support for Seri Kembangan assemblywoman Wong Siew Ki, stressing that elected representatives must be respected when performing their duties in legislative chambers and raising public concerns.

Nga, who also serves as Minister of Housing and Local Government, said issues related to pig farming should be viewed within the broader context of agricultural modernisation, national food security, and environmental protection, rather than being influenced by extremist narratives.

He cited Perak as an example of successful policy implementation, noting that under the Unity Government, the state has demonstrated how modernised livestock management can coexist with environmental sustainability.

According to him, Perak currently has 83 pig farms, with 65 of them—about 78%—having already obtained development permits as part of the state’s upgrading efforts.

Nga explained that the transition towards enclosed farming systems has helped address issues such as odour pollution and water contamination, while also ensuring a stable and safe pork supply, reinforcing national food security objectives.

He added that these improvements reflect a broader push towards industrial upgrading, modernisation and professionalisation within the agricultural sector.

However, he criticised Perikatan Nasional, claiming the opposition attempted to politicise the issue along racial and religious lines, including organising protests outside Wong’s service centre.

Nga said such actions expose what he described as extremist tendencies, and urged all parties to avoid exploiting public welfare issues to stir racial tensions.

He reaffirmed that DAP will continue to defend its elected representatives’ right to speak up in legislative assemblies, while calling for a more rational and professional approach in addressing agricultural and environmental matters.
