Pas has signalled its willingness to work with a wider range of political parties following its decision to end formal political cooperation with Bersatu, a move the party says will provide greater flexibility in building new alliances.
Pas deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the decision allows the party to engage with political groups that were previously difficult to collaborate with due to objections from Bersatu.
Among the parties mentioned were Parti Pejuang Tanah Air, BERJASA and several other political groups that may share common goals.
According to the Kubang Kerian MP, Pas remains open to discussions with any party interested in forming a new political alliance under the proposed Muafakat Nasional (MN) 2.0 banner or through another suitable platform.
He stressed that the party’s decision was intended to create more room for political engagement and coalition-building ahead of future political developments.
Tuan Ibrahim also reiterated that Muslim unity remains a central objective of Pas and should continue to be pursued by Malay-Muslim political parties regardless of political differences.
He said efforts to strengthen unity should be undertaken in the broader interest of the nation and not be limited by partisan considerations.
When asked whether Pas was prioritising the revival of Muafakat Nasional through MN 2.0 over the proposed Perikatan Nasional (PN) Plus initiative, Tuan Ibrahim clarified that the party’s immediate focus remains on strengthening the existing PN framework.
“For now, our focus is on PN Plus,” he said.
The latest development comes after Pas announced on June 8 that it had terminated its political cooperation with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia following a special meeting of its Central Working Committee.
A day later, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin expressed disappointment over the decision but affirmed that Bersatu would continue to remain within the Perikatan Nasional coalition as one of its founding members.
The move has sparked fresh speculation about potential political realignments, with observers closely watching whether Pas will pursue a broader coalition strategy ahead of the next general election.
