PAS has claimed that the latest outcome of the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election signals growing political challenges for the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led Unity Government, while suggesting the country could see a shift in its political landscape ahead of the next general election.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) had emerged as a “winning formula” following the coalition’s success in Negeri Sembilan.
He expressed confidence that if the same political cooperation continues into the next general election, the alliance could secure more parliamentary seats and potentially expand its influence across Peninsular Malaysia, including Penang.
Ahmad Fadhli also urged BN and PN leaders to remain committed to their current political approach, while advising them to continue serving professionally until Parliament is dissolved for the next general election.
He further claimed PH supporters should reassess their political support ahead of the next polls, arguing that the latest election results reflected changing voter sentiment.
The Election Commission (EC) officially announced that BN won 18 of the 36 Negeri Sembilan state seats, while PH secured 11 seats and PN won seven.
The result ended PH’s two-term administration in Negeri Sembilan after the coalition lost its majority in the state assembly.
Ahmad Fadhli, who is also the Pasir Mas MP, also called on PH leaders and supporters to reflect on the election outcome rather than attributing the result solely to racial sentiment.
He said voters should be respected for making their own political decisions, adding that the coalition must recognise the message delivered through the ballot box.
The political developments in Negeri Sembilan are expected to remain under close scrutiny as parties begin preparing their strategies ahead of the next general election.
