Perikatan Nasional Calls Urgent Meeting To Discuss Party Membership Matters

Date:

Perikatan Nasional (PN) is set to convene an emergency meeting on Monday night to deliberate on matters related to the coalition’s party membership, with the discussion scheduled to take place at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

According to an official notice signed by PN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and dated June 18, 2026, the meeting will begin at 8.30pm, in line with the coalition’s constitutional provisions.

The notice stated that the session will be conducted under Fasal 10, which covers meeting notifications and agenda setting, as well as Fasal 12, which outlines the frequency of meetings within the coalition structure.

In what is seen as a significant internal discussion, the agenda will focus primarily on issues involving PN’s membership composition, a matter that has drawn attention within the coalition’s leadership circles.

It is generally understood that such meetings reflect the ongoing need for political coalitions to periodically review internal arrangements to ensure cohesion and compliance with established regulations.

The invitation to the meeting has been circulated to PN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, along with the coalition’s four deputy chairmen — Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai, Punithan Paramsiven, and Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

While the official agenda remains focused on membership matters, there is also expectation that discussions may extend to the use of the coalition’s name and related administrative concerns.

Observers note that internal governance issues are not uncommon in political alliances, particularly when it comes to clarifying authority and ensuring that all activities are conducted within the party’s constitution and the Societies Act 1966.

Previously, PN had stressed that any activity or meeting using the coalition’s name must obtain prior approval from its chairman, reinforcing its stance on organisational discipline and proper authorisation.

Takiyuddin had also emphasised that such rules are necessary to ensure that all administrative and political operations are aligned with the coalition’s constitution and legal framework.

Ahmad Samsuri, who is also PAS vice-president and Terengganu Menteri Besar, was appointed as the new PN chairman on February 22, following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation effective January 1, after leading the coalition since August 2020.
