PKR Youth Demands Probe Into Hadi’s Claim US Offered To Help Topple Government

Date:

Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) has urged authorities to investigate PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s claim that a representative of the United States Embassy had once offered assistance to the party in an effort to topple the government.

AMK chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said the allegation was serious as it involved claims of a possible arrangement between a foreign power and local entities to undermine the country’s parliamentary democracy.

“The statement is serious… it appears there was an attempt at an arrangement between an external power and a local entity to undermine the parliamentary democratic system. This goes against the Federal Constitution,” he said.

Kamil said the authorities should begin an investigation following the US Embassy’s denial and determine whether Hadi’s allegation was true.

“If it is true, there must be immediate and firm action,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating the National Keris Completion Ceremony organised by the Persatuan Silat Seni Gayong Malaysia Perak and the Perhimpunan Silat Anak-Anak Gayong Perak at Teluk Batik Campsite here on Sunday.

Earlier, US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires David H Gamble Jr said in a post on the embassy’s Facebook page that the United States had never attempted to determine Malaysia’s political leadership.

He described any statements suggesting otherwise as false.

Hadi had made the allegation a day earlier while delivering his speech at the 72nd PAS Annual Muktamar in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

He claimed that the United States had previously offered to help PAS topple and take over the government when Barisan Nasional was in power.
