Former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has officially announced that he is now a member of Parti Bersama Malaysia, marking a major new chapter in his political journey after leaving PKR.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Rafizi revealed that he registered as a new member of the party at exactly 12.56pm, adding that he joined only as an ordinary member despite being one of the key figures expected to lead the movement.
“I am now an ordinary member, and my membership number is probably much lower compared to those who joined earlier since Sunday,” he wrote.
Rafizi also explained the party’s unique 14-digit membership numbering system, saying it was designed to reflect members’ state and parliamentary involvement nationwide.
According to him, the first two digits represent the state code chosen by the member, followed by the parliamentary constituency code, while the remaining eight digits indicate the member’s registration serial number across the country.
He gave an example using the membership number “12 0173 0000 9242”, which he said belonged to the 9,242nd member who registered since Sunday and would be actively involved in the Putatan parliamentary constituency in Sabah.
Rafizi even congratulated a Sabah member named Agustinus, whose membership number was used as the example in his explanation.
The former economy minister also revealed that many supporters had already contacted him offering to help establish party branches at district and state levels.
However, he advised those interested to first register officially through the party’s website, explaining that the process of organising grassroots structures would take place gradually over the next month.
“Bersama must adopt the spirit of Sang Kancil — finding the most effective and optimal methods in building grassroots organisation so that we remain agile, smart and brave,” he said.
He stressed that the party’s approach to grassroots organisation would differ from traditional political party structures already existing in Malaysia.
The announcement comes just days after Rafizi and former PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad confirmed they would be taking over a political party known as Parti Bersama Malaysia.
The handover of the party leadership was officially carried out during a political direction announcement ceremony held on Sunday, where both former ministers outlined their plans moving forward.
