Kuamut Assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah has called on the Federal Government to increase the monthly BUDI diesel subsidy quota for Sabah and Sarawak from 200 litres to 500 litres.
Speaking during the debate on the Supplementary Supply Bill 2026 on Monday, Masiung said the current allocation is insufficient for people living in rural areas, particularly in Sabah, where residents often have to travel much longer distances than those in Peninsular Malaysia.
He said the higher fuel quota would better reflect the transportation needs of rural communities that rely heavily on diesel-powered vehicles for their daily activities.
Besides calling for an increase in the diesel subsidy, Masiung also urged the government to appoint village heads for 12 newly established villages in the Kuamut constituency.
He further appealed to the government to prioritise Kuamut under the supplementary allocation for the Sabah Water Department to address the area’s ongoing piped water supply issues.
According to Masiung, improving access to basic infrastructure and public services remains crucial to enhancing the quality of life for residents in the rural constituency.
