Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has urged the public not to make selective accusations following the controversial dog capture incident in Taman Teluk Gedung Indah, Port Klang.
Speaking at a state event, Amirudin said enforcement involving stray animals must be carried out responsibly while balancing public safety and animal welfare.
He rejected claims that the authorities had failed to act, saying the issue of stray dogs had previously been raised, including by the Port Klang state assemblyman in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.
“We must strike a balance. Action is necessary to address stray dogs or other animals that may pose a risk to public safety, but it must be done appropriately,” he said.
Amirudin was responding to allegations from some residents who questioned why greater attention appeared to be given to the death of a dog than to issues affecting human lives.
He also noted that the Raja Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, had expressed concern over recent cases involving cruelty towards both stray and pet animals.
“There is no reason to be upset because some people focus on animal welfare while others focus on human welfare. Both are important,” he said.
Amirudin added that the Selangor government would continue taking action on issues involving stray animals while ensuring that the wider public interest remains the priority.
The incident, which went viral after a pet dog died during a capture operation in Klang, is currently being investigated by police under Section 428 of the Penal Code.
