Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan has blamed Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) for the cancellation of the coalition’s registration by the Registrar of Societies (RoS), accusing the party of turning against its own allies.
He alleged that Bersatu had lodged a complaint with the RoS claiming PN breached its constitution by failing to invite the party to a Supreme Council meeting on July 16.
“I want to stress that Bersatu is responsible for PN’s cancellation.
“The party is always stabbing its allies in the back,” he said.
Takiyuddin was speaking at the Kubang Kerian parliamentary constituency’s Jelajah Himpunan and Munajat Penyatuan Ummah event in Pasir Tumboh on Tuesday.
He also recalled the Johor state election, claiming Bersatu had requested to contest as many seats as possible under the PN logo. The request was granted, but Bersatu lost every seat it contested, he said.
Regarding the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election, Takiyuddin said discussions on seat allocations, including those for Bersatu, were supposed to take place after Barisan Nasional (BN) offered PN 11 seats.
However, he alleged that Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced a day before the scheduled meeting that his party would contest 24 seats under the Bersatu logo instead of PN’s.
“How could we still invite them to the meeting when he had already announced that they would contest without using the PN logo?” Takiyuddin asked.
He said Bersatu subsequently complained to the RoS, alleging that PN had violated its constitution by denying the party the right to attend and participate in the coalition’s Supreme Council meeting.
Takiyuddin said PN received the cancellation notice at around 8am on Tuesday.
According to him, the RoS letter stated that PN had breached Clause 7.1 of its constitution by denying Bersatu the right to attend and participate in the Supreme Council meeting on July 16.
However, Takiyuddin defended PN’s decision not to invite Bersatu, claiming the party was facing internal problems at the time.
Bersatu had previously blamed PN’s PAS-led leadership for the cancellation, arguing that its rights had been denied when it was excluded from the meeting.
Responding to the criticism, Takiyuddin said Bersatu was entitled to issue statements but questioned why it had lodged a formal complaint with the RoS.
“What was cancelled by the RoS was because of their complaint. They claimed we had done something wrong by not inviting them to the meeting, when that was not wrong.
“This was a practice previously followed within PN, including when other parties were involved. What makes Bersatu so special? It cannot expect to be treated differently from other parties,” he said.
Takiyuddin added that the same approach could have been taken if PAS had faced internal problems, with the coalition asking the party to resolve them before being invited to a meeting.
“If PAS had a problem, PN could issue an ultimatum for it to resolve the issue before being invited. That is how it works. The same applied to Parti Warisan, as well as MIPP, and now Bersatu,” he said.
