The Terengganu government will cover the immediate medical expenses of a 13-year-old boy who suffered 60 per cent burns in a crash involving a participant of the RXZ Members 8.0 gathering, with treatment costs estimated at RM15,000.
State Welfare, Women’s Development, Family and National Unity Committee chairman Maliaman Kassim said the financial assistance would be channelled through Tabung Darul Iman (TDI) to help ease the family’s burden during Ahmad Asyraf Talhah’s treatment and recovery.
Maliaman said his special officer and representatives from TDI recently visited the family to check on the teenager’s condition and assess the assistance needed while he was away on official duties.
“We came to get an update on his condition, deliver a contribution, and extend our support to the family. We pray for Ahmad Asyraf’s speedy recovery and for all his medical treatments to go smoothly,” he said.
He also expressed hope that the family would remain strong during the difficult period and urged the public to keep them in their prayers.
Maliaman added that a personal contribution was also presented to the victim’s mother, Syafirah Salim, 36, who was also injured in the accident.
“The state government prays that both the victim and his mother, who is seven months pregnant, will be blessed with good health,” he said.
He said the government hopes the assistance will support the family throughout Ahmad Asyraf’s treatment until he makes a full recovery.
The accident occurred at about 11.50am last Friday at the Buluh Gading junction in Manir, when the motorcycle carrying Ahmad Asyraf and his mother collided with a Yamaha RXZ.
The boy suffered severe burns to nearly 60 per cent of his body, mainly from the waist down.
At the time of the crash, Syafirah was travelling from her home in Kampung Tanjung Sabtu to Batu Enam Market to buy groceries.
Their motorcycle was completely destroyed in the fire, while the Yamaha RXZ sustained about 80 per cent damage after also catching fire.
Ahmad Asyraf is currently receiving treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ), where doctors have placed him in a medically induced coma to facilitate wound debridement procedures.
