Tunisia Denies Drone Attack on Pro-Palestinian Flotilla Ship, Confirms Onboard Explosion

Date:

Tunisia has denied reports that a Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) ship carrying pro-Palestinian activists was attacked by a drone.

A spokesperson for the Tunisian National Guard told AFP that no drones were detected and that further investigations are ongoing. “This allegation is entirely baseless. Preliminary inspections indicate that the explosion originated from inside the vessel,” the spokesperson said.

Earlier, organizers of the mission aimed at breaking the blockade on Gaza claimed that the Portuguese-flagged ship was targeted by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) while docked outside Sidi Bou Said port.

All passengers and crew were reported safe.

“The Family Boat was hit in Tunisian waters, causing damage to the main deck,” a GSF spokesperson said.

Several videos shared on Instagram suggested that a “flammable device” triggered the onboard fire, but the blaze was successfully controlled.

The aid flotilla, which departed from Barcelona, arrived in Tunisia on Sunday.
