Umno Selangor Backs Sultan Sharafuddin, Warns Against Politicising Royal Institution

Date:

Umno Selangor has expressed full support and appreciation for the recent statement issued by the Selangor Royal Council, which clarified the role and responsibilities of the Sultan of Selangor under the constitutional monarchy system.

State Umno chief Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said the clarification is important to help the public understand that the Sultan’s decrees, advice and reminders are consistent with the principles of constitutional monarchy and aimed at safeguarding the welfare and stability of the state.

He stressed that all parties must respect the position of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, in accordance with the state constitution and legal framework, and avoid politicising royal opinions.

Megat Zulkarnain said the institution of the Malay Rulers serves as a unifying symbol for the people and a pillar of stability that must be protected regardless of political differences.

He added that the Royal Institution plays a crucial role in ensuring accountable governance, integrity, and a focus on public interest in state administration.

Umno Selangor also reiterated its consistent stance in defending the Selangor monarchy against any form of insult, slander or attempts to undermine its dignity, including previous controversies involving misrepresentation of royal statements and imagery.

The party further called on all political actors to exercise maturity and responsibility when commenting on matters involving the monarchy, urging that such issues should not be used for narrow political disputes.

It also emphasised that priority should be given to resolving public issues and strengthening state stability in line with the principles of constitutional monarchy practiced in Malaysia.
