Zahid Responds To Anwar’s Poem, Says Unity Government Relationship Remains Strong

Date:

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has responded to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s viral poem on social media, insisting that their relationship within the Unity Government remains strong despite ongoing speculation.

Ahmad Zahid said he composed the poem on Wednesday night shortly after reading Anwar’s social media post, which gained widespread attention as campaigning for the Negeri Sembilan state election (PRN) intensified.

He described his response as light-hearted, saying it was meant to address the jokes and speculation surrounding their relationship.

“I have a poem too, and I wanted to reply to Anwar’s. I wrote it at 9.04pm after the news came out,” he told reporters after chairing the 61st Coordination Meeting Between the Minister of Rural and Regional Development and State Rural Development Executive Councillors (MEXCLUB) in Teluk Bahang, Penang, on Thursday.

When asked about the meaning behind his poem, the UMNO president declined to elaborate but stressed that there was no issue between him and the Prime Minister.

“Our relationship is perfectly fine. Look, we’ve done almost everything together — the only thing we haven’t done is kiss each other on the mouth.

“Everything else is okay,” he joked, drawing laughter from those present.

Earlier, Anwar shared a four-line poem on his official Facebook page highlighting the importance of unity, discipline and solidarity in friendships and political cooperation.

The poem emphasised the value of remaining united despite differences and was accompanied by the classic 1980s song Madu dan Racun, which further drew attention to the post.

Anwar also shared photographs from the latest Cabinet meeting, showing Ahmad Zahid and Transport Minister Anthony Loke appearing relaxed and cheerful, reinforcing the message of unity within the coalition government.
