Malaysia’s professional mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing stormed into the quarter-finals of the Macau Open after producing a commanding performance in the second round.
The world No.113 duo had little trouble disposing of Taiwan’s Cheng Kai Wen and Liu Chiao Yun 21-13, 21-12 in just 24 minutes.
Since partnering in April, Pang Ron and Pei Jing showed full control throughout the match, never allowing their opponents to gain a foothold in either set.
After taking the opening game comfortably, the Malaysian pair maintained their momentum to seal a convincing straight-sets victory in the second.
The win also marks their first-ever quarter-final appearance since joining forces, having previously exited early in their last four tournaments.
They will next face South Korea’s Cho Song Hyun and Jeong Na Eun, who defeated Macau’s Leong Iok Chong and Ng Weng Chi 21-8, 21-11.
Meanwhile, another Malaysian pair, Liew Xun and Ho Lo Ee, came close to an upset but eventually fell 21-16, 12-21, 19-21 to China’s fourth seeds Zhu Yi Jun and Li Qian.
