Lee Zii Jia Declared Fully Fit Ahead Of Thomas Cup Campaign

Date:

Professional men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia has fully recovered from his ankle injury and is ready for competition if selected for duty at the upcoming Thomas Cup, according to his coach.

Coach Liew Daren confirmed that the 26-year-old has returned to full fitness and is currently undergoing a more intensive training programme to regain peak performance levels.

“Yes, he is 100% recovered from his ankle injury,” Daren said at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) on Thursday.

He added that Zii Jia has shown clear improvement during his recent training sessions with players from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), following his return to court earlier this week.

Daren also highlighted the benefit of training at ABM, noting that the environment provides high-quality sparring opportunities against a variety of players, which is crucial for match preparation.

Meanwhile, National men’s singles coach K. Yogendran, who is overseeing Zii Jia’s training at ABM, said the player has been putting in strong effort during every session.

He stressed that the structured training environment is important not only for Zii Jia’s development but also for fostering stronger overall team dynamics.

Yogendran added that Zii Jia’s presence has had a positive impact on younger shuttlers, who view him as a role model and source of motivation.

The 2026 Thomas Cup Finals will be held in Horsens, Denmark, from April 24 to May 3.
