Malaysia Hits Five-Gold Target As Abdul Latif Romly And Weightlifters Shine At Glasgow 2026

Date:

Malaysia has achieved its five-gold target at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after para athletics star Datuk Abdul Latif Romly stormed to victory in the men’s T20 long jump, capping another memorable day for the national contingent in Glasgow.

The two-time Paralympic champion produced a winning leap of 7.17 metres on his third attempt, a mark none of his rivals could match, securing Malaysia’s fifth gold medal of the Games.

Adding to the celebrations, fellow Malaysian Eljoe Gotuoh claimed the bronze medal with a jump of 6.51m, while Canada’s Noah Vucsics took silver with 6.66m.

Latif’s triumph also made history as the men’s T20 long jump was contested for the first time at the Commonwealth Games.

Earlier in the day, Muhammad Hafizuddin Roslin delivered Malaysia’s fourth gold after dominating the men’s 88kg weightlifting event on his Commonwealth Games debut.

The 22-year-old lifted a combined 345kg, made up of 162kg in the snatch and 183kg in the clean and jerk, with both efforts setting new Commonwealth Games records.

His victory completed a remarkable sweep by Malaysia’s weightlifting team, which contributed all four gold medals through Mohamad Aniq Kasdan (men’s 60kg), Muhamad Aznil Bidin (men’s 65kg), Muhammad Erry Hidayat (men’s 79kg) and Muhammad Hafizuddin Roslin (men’s 88kg).

Malaysia also celebrated success in lawn bowls, where Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple won silver in the men’s singles, while Aleena Ahmad Nawawi and Syafiqa Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman claimed another silver in the women’s pairs.

With five gold medals now secured, Malaysia has successfully met its pre-Games target while continuing to add to its overall medal tally in Glasgow.
